Did You know?
Nofollow links is an HTML attributes used to influence the link target in search engine’s index. This attribute was proposed in 2005 by a well known Google’s engineer and the head of webspam team – Matt Cutts and blogger’s Joson Shelen to stop or reduce search engine spam caused by many peoples that drops unusual comments to get backlinks.
What is the difference between Dofollow and Nofollow links?
Lets get back to the topic about difference between dofollow and nofollow links. First of all we will discuss about nofollow backlinks. A nofollow backlink is opposite to a dofollow backlink. nofollow links prevent search engines spiders to crawl the link. So, if you are getting a backlink from a nofollow site, it does not pass the link juice. As mentioned above nofollow no follow links prevent web spiders to crawl the link only humans will able to follow the link. We cannot even say that nofollow links are not useful for any website because humans are not bounded to nofollow the links and if you will drop a comment or participate in a nofollow blog or forum then it will still useful because these are also helpful in bringing huge amount of traffic. Let me explain about this, for example you will participate in a forum/blog that gives you nofollow links you can still derive traffic from it because if a visitor of that blog/forum will click on that link then it will be also counted as traffic. Traffic from search is not everything when we can derive a huge amount from social networking sites, forums, blogs etc. So I will suggest you to don’t get focused on dofollow links because you have to focus on entire spectrum.
Where I can use nofollow link?
- You can use it to protect seo qualities of a page. You can use it on comments, forums, profile name or anywhere where there is likely to be spamming. Using this attribute in comment is important for SEO reasons.
- It warns search engines from your site’s posts or pages that not to be indexed.
Here is an example of nofollow hyperlink:
<a href=http://www.google.com/ rel=nofollow>Visit Google Now</a>
Dofollow link: Dofollow is an opposite to nofollow link. Unlike nofollow a dofollow link gives us link juice and backlink. It tells search engines to navigate on the specific link. It is being always believed that dofollow links gives you link juice where nofollow do not. dofollow links are useful in bringing search traffic where nofollow brings referral traffic. If you are a webmaster and wants to give dofollow link to a site then I recommend you to place your target keywords in anchor tags. There is no doubt that dofollow links are too much helpful to improve a site’s PageRank and ranking but unfortunately most of the blogs are now nofollow. You can still build dofollow backlinks by Guest posts.
Here is an example of dofollow link:
<a href=”http://www.google.com”>Visit Google Now</a>
A big difference between dofollow and nofollow links is nofollow links contains rel=nofollow where dofollow contains normal hyperlink.
If you’re a WordPress user and using WordPress SEO by Yoast then you can easily nofollow or noindex a specific post or page. Robots Meta plugin can also be used to nofollow posts. Using nofollow attribute is useful to reduce spam. You can use it in comments or outgoing links to spam site so that it will not effect your SEO and ranking.
